Children’s Dance Classes

Taking place in Upper Norwood Library Hub at the heart of Crystal Palace, South East London this class is a real adventure!

We start with fun warm ups and practice our steps, moving on to some simple routines and group exercises. We make it fun through the use of props and songs, allowing the children to experiment with new movements each week. The class ends with learning a dance routine which we share with parents and carers at the end of the term.

Saturdays:

10:10-10:40 Ages 2-3 Tiny Movers- Creative Dance

Tiny Movers is the perfect way to encourage your little ones natural love of movement in a structured yet relaxed environment. Themes, music, props and games are used to develop balance, coordination and imagination. This class draws from ballet and contemporary dance techniques. We make it fun through the use of props and songs, allowing the children to experiment with new movements each week.

10:45-11:15 Ages 4-5 Mini Dancers- Ballet with Creative Movement

Super energetic and creative sessions exploring dance and movement. Children are encouraged to be creative and imaginative whilst learning experiencing elements of ballet and contemporary dance. We explore different themes each week and ensure of progressive nature of this class.

11:20-12:05 Ages 6-8 Creative Contemporary with Ballet

Filled with creativity, high energy introduction to contemporary dance and ballet. Children learn technique and learn choreography whilst improving their movement memory. Participants also develop choreographic skills through creative tasks. This class is real confidence booster!

12:10-13:00 Ages 8-11 Creative Contemporary with Ballet - Rambert Grades!

Through this class children will develop good understanding of contemporary and ballet techniques.The class will begin with an easy warm up the body ready to move, followed by a series of phrases and exercises that focus on different parts of the body. Phrases will be built on throughout the course, with creativity, and technique. This class follow Rambert Grades syllabus and children will have opportunity to take Grade 1 exam at the end of the year.

Practical information: 

What children should wear: 

Comfortable clothes such as leggings and t-shirts, ballet shoes or non-slip socks. 

Parents in the class: 

We recommend that all children over 2 years old participate in the class without parents. However we are happy to welcome parents in the room for the first couple of sessions if the child needs to settle in. There is a space downstairs for parents to wait during the class, we ask parents to stay in the building.
